UK was awarded £15.1 million under the Big Lottery Fund Wellbeing Programme to deliver
the fit as a fiddle portfolio across 9 English regions from 2007 to 2012 supporting people
over 55 to achieve outcomes focused on three main strands:
- Improving and developing levels of physical activity
- Healthy eating
- Mental wellbeing
Sporting Equals was commissioned by Age UK in August 2009 as one of five national partners
for the Age UK fit as a fiddle cascade training programme to deliver the faith and
community strand.

Encouraging young people to become physically active
Get Up Get Moving is a unique educational project delivered by our partners the Zesh
Rehman Foundation that includes our physical activity ambassador and 1st team doctor
of Liverpool FC, Dr Zafar Iqbal, and has successfully engaged teachers and pupils through
the presence of Liverpool FC and Get up Get Moving ambassador, Liverpool and England
footballer Steven Gerrard.

Engaging young people from faith communities in PE and sport
out of school hours
The guide has been produced as part of a pilot project undertaken
by the Youth Sport Trust in partnership with ContinYou and Sporting Equals. The project
aimed to encourage school sport partnerships and supplementary schools to work together,
and to target and engage young people from ethnic minority and faith communities in physically
active out-of-school-hours learning (oshl) activities.
